About us
For more than 35 years Jane and Dwayne Scott have been involved in martial arts. Jane developed a passion for karate as a kid, and began training in martial arts while she earned an elementary physical education degree at Erskine College. Dwayne too developed a love for karate at a young age. Both of them have trained with well-recognized instructors around the Upstate including Joe Palmer, Dennis Smith, and Marty Knight, and the Scotts are currently 6th degree Black Belts.
Over the years Jane and Dwayne have competed at national, regional, and state events. Jane has earned multiple state championship titles and Dwayne was South Carolina’s Heavy Weight State Champion for five consecutive years. They both competed as members of the prestigious Marty Knights Competition Team and Dwayne was on the Intersport USA Karate Team, founded by Chuck Norris, which toured Russia in 1990. In recent years, Dwayne was inducted into the USA Black Belt Hall of Fame.
Jane and Dwayne love working with young students and helping them to develop the same fire and passion for karate that they still hold. They believe that introducing a child to karate is one of the best things a parent can do. It builds character, self-respect, confidence, and sportsmanship. Dwayne asserted that “Unlike team sports where you rely on teammates, karate is based on your individual work and achievements. Karate is well known for its development of self-defense, self-discipline, honor, and respect. Although times are changing we try to pass on these traits to all of our students.” To the Scotts, karate is beneficial for all ages young and old and everyone in between.
